Sensory Bin Sunday

This is our first week of Sensory Bin Sunday!! HOW FUN! I love to use sensory bins during my occupational therapy sessions and with my 1.5 year old. I have seen so many AMAZING sensory bins floating around the interwebs. I also love me a good theme, I have developed a Spring Sensory Bin which I will share later in this post.

At home I have used water beads and my daughter is OBSESSED. We use her water table, it is perfect for her and keeps her entertained for hours. Another great part is that the water beads do not mold, become stale etc. The water beads that are in her water table have been in since Christmas Break and are still fresh! She LOVES to scoop the water beads out of the water and put them into containers, then dump them out.

Funny story of our current situation with these water beads though… our water bead supply was running low – I took some to work – so we were adding more. Addilynn was assisting and dumped the ENTIRE. NEW. BAG. of water beads in.

I get the question I get ALL. THE. TIME. is “What kind of filler should I use?” Well I have developed a list of different types of fillers, both food and non-food.

Now here is my bin for this week, I made one for home and one for school. This is made up of rainbow rock salt, scrabble pieces, scoops, and container (not pictured)

If you follow Play The OT Way Facebook page. Here is the promised how to dye rock salt.

Supplies: Ice Cream Salt, liquid food coloring and a container to mix everything together.

Step 1: Measure out 1 cup of rock salt (I made 7 different colors PROY-G-BV) and used the entire container of rock salt.

Step 2: Dump into container- I used plastic bags.

Step 3: Add liquid food coloring – I use this slime coloring.

Step 4: Pass to your sweet helper to letter them SHAKE-SHAKE-SHAKE
